Is Fluorite the Same as Amethyst?
No.
This is not simply two names for purple crystal.
Amethyst is quartz.
Fluorite is calcium fluoride.
Their physical properties are very different.
Amethyst sits around 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Fluorite is around 4 and also has what mineralogists call perfect cleavage — meaning its internal structure allows it to split along particular planes more easily.
Translated from geology into crystal-shop language:
Fluorite needs more care.
That does not make it inferior.
It makes it Fluorite.
And knowing that before you buy it is part of buying the right stone for the way you actually live.
Which Purple Stone Is Better for a Daily Bracelet?
For most people asking specifically about daily wear, our answer is:
Amethyst.
Amethyst is simply the more forgiving mineral for normal everyday wrist life.
Your bracelet is going to touch desks.
Counters.
Door frames.
Other bracelets.
Shopping carts.
Car interiors.
Life.
Quartz handles normal abrasion much better than Fluorite.
That does not mean a Fluorite bracelet must live in a velvet box while everyone whispers around it.

You just need accurate expectations.
Choose Amethyst for daily wear when:
- You want a bracelet you plan to put on often
- You are hard on jewelry

Can You Wear Fluorite Jewelry Every Day?
You can wear Fluorite regularly.
But I would call it mindful wear, not carefree wear.
Fluorite is softer than many popular jewelry stones and can scratch or chip more easily.
If you wear a Fluorite stretch bracelet:
- Take it off for rough physical activity
- Remove it before showering or swimming
- Avoid sleeping in it
- Store it separately from harder jewelry
- Do not toss it into a jewelry box where harder stones can grind against it
This is especially important if you stack bracelets.
An Amethyst bracelet rubbing constantly against Fluorite is not an equal match physically.
Quartz is harder.
Fluorite will lose that argument.
How Do You Tell Amethyst and Fluorite Apart?
Do not rely only on purple color.
Purple alone does not identify a mineral.
Fluorite often gives you more visual clues because it can show bands of different colors — purple, green, clear, blue and combinations that create the familiar Rainbow Fluorite look.
Fluorite can also have an almost luminous quality, especially when backlit.

What Is Rainbow Fluorite?
Rainbow Fluorite is still Fluorite.
It is not a separate Sacred Crystals stone with a completely different spiritual meaning.
The name describes the banded, multi-colored appearance.
You may see green, purple, blue, clear or other color zones in the same piece.
We do not invent a new metaphysical personality for every color stripe.
Our Fluorite teaching remains centered on:
Mental clarity. Focus. Clear thinking. The Student’s Stone.
That keeps the teaching attached to the stone rather than turning every color variation into a whole new doctrine.
Does Amethyst Fade in the Sun?
Yes.
Amethyst is actually one of my favorite examples when teaching customers that crystals are physical objects governed by physical reality too.
Prolonged strong sunlight can fade the purple color of Amethyst.
That does not mean you cannot wear it outside.
It means you probably should not make a sunny windowsill its permanent home.
If you have ever seen an old piece of Amethyst that has gone surprisingly pale, sunlight may be part of the story.
Does Fluorite Fade in Sunlight?
Fluorite can also fade with prolonged exposure to strong sunlight, particularly purple Fluorite.
The same common-sense rule works:
Enjoy your crystal.
Wear your crystal.
Display your crystal.
Just do not deliberately bake a color-sensitive stone in direct sun for months and expect nothing to change.
A Few Important Fluorite Care Notes
Because Fluorite is softer and cleaves easily, give it a little extra respect.
Store it separately from harder stones.
Avoid long soaking.
And Fluorite should never be used internally or in crystal elixirs intended for drinking.
Some crystal traditions use stones around water in various ways, but putting Fluorite into something you intend to consume is not one of them.
The metaphysics and the mineral safety do not need to argue with each other.
