Selenite, to me, is one of the most important stones to have in your collection. Selenite is a cleansing stone that never needs to be cleansed. It is constantly pulling in all less-than-light energy and transmuting it to the divine. It never stops working — even when the area is clear it sits and waits and clears any negative energy that comes into its path. It cleanses the aura, and it cleanses your other stones.

Selenite works closely with Archangel Michael, who is often said to "vacuum negative energy" from the aura when called to. I believe that Michael's powerful sword is forged with a selenite blade.

This intense and constant cleansing makes Selenite a welcome companion during meditations and healings. In meditation it is constantly cleansing, thus cleansing the chakras. When the chakras are cleansed, they align. And when they align you are better able to connect with the divine. In healing, all too often chakras are blocked with past trauma — Selenite aids the healer in removing those blocks so that there is space for the healing to begin.

About the Stone

Selenite grows in long crystals Vero calls logs, and takes its name from the Ancient Greek word for the Moon — pearly white with a glow about it. Satin Spar is the same stone. Some of the largest crystals ever found are Selenite: the Naica Mine in Mexico holds crystals so large they make people look like ants.

Care

Selenite does not need cleaning, and should not be cleaned — especially not with water or salt. It is delicate; its gypsum base is water soluble, and it is soft enough that salt would damage it. It sheds a little and picks up oils from your hands, and it is still clean and cleansing. Never leave it on an outdoor altar or in a humid bathroom. Cleanse it with sage or moonlight.
