New Zealand Abalone Shell, 5 to 6 inches: a polished pāua shell for smudging — the bowl that catches the ash and the embers, and the water element in the ceremony.
In Sacred Crystals' Teaching
During a smudging or a ceremony we call upon all 4 Elements: Earth is the smudge stick, Air is represented by smoke, Fire is lighting the stick, and the Water Element is represented by your Abalone Shell. The energy of Abalone brings a sense of tranquility and safety.
What Makes This Piece
- Shell: New Zealand pāua (abalone), polished to show the blue-green iridescence
- Size: 5 to 6 inches
- Use it for: smudge bundles, palo santo, loose herbs on charcoal (with a layer of sand)
- Each shell is its own — the one you receive will vary a little from the photos
How to Use It
Put a layer of sand in the shell before you use it for anything hot — the mother-of-pearl scorches otherwise. Rest a smouldering smudge bundle or palo santo stick on the sand, or set a small charcoal disc on it for loose herbs and resin, and press the ember out in the sand when you are done. Hold it in your hand while you smudge, or set it on a heat-safe surface. Never leave it unattended.
Pairs Well With
White Sage Smudge Stick (4 in.), Palo Santo Stick, Smudge Feather - Faux Eagle (Turkey).
Set it on a heat-safe surface and never leave anything burning unattended. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
