Fire Quartz is quartz (Mohs 7) with red iron-oxide inclusions — Sacred Crystals identifies them as lepidocrocite, an iron oxyhydroxide, though hematite often grows in the same stone and the trade uses all three names loosely. The red is the inclusion, not the quartz; the host is usually clear or milky, so the flecks and clouds of scarlet show through it.
Durable and water-safe; warm water and a soft cloth. The iron inclusions can rust-stain if a stone is left standing in water, so dry it after cleansing. Cleanse it in sunlight or moonlight.
