About the Stone
Sapphire is gem corundum — crystalline aluminium oxide, with iron and titanium giving the classic blue. Red corundum is Ruby; corundum of any other colour is Sapphire, so the two are the same mineral with entirely separate teachings. Opaque material is genuine sapphire below gem clarity. September's birthstone.
Wearing & Care
Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. One of the most durable stones in the shop: warm soapy water and a soft brush, safe for water, salt and sun, excellent for everyday wear.
