Petroleum Quartz forms when liquid petroleum becomes trapped within Quartz crystals during their formation in hydrothermal environments. The petroleum is sealed inside the crystal as it grows, sometimes for hundreds of millions of years. Under UV light, the petroleum fluoresces in vivid greens, yellows, and blues — a phenomenon caused by the aromatic hydrocarbons within the petroleum. The finest specimens come from Pakistan and Afghanistan. Each piece is a completely unique geological event.
