Arfvedsonite is a sodium iron amphibole mineral that forms in alkaline igneous rocks. Its extraordinary blue-silver flash is caused by the reflection of light off its fibrous crystal structure — similar to the chatoyancy seen in Tiger Eye, but more dramatic and multidirectional. It's found primarily in Greenland, Russia, and Canada. It was named after Johan August Arfwedson, the Swedish chemist who also discovered lithium. Note: Arfvedsonite is sometimes confused with Nuummite or Astrophyllite — all are extraordinary stones, but each has its own distinct energy.
