About the Stone
Dioptase is a hydrated copper silicate that grows as vivid emerald-green crystals in oxidised copper deposits; the celebrated material comes from Tsumeb in Namibia, and from Kazakhstan and the Congo. It is soft, brittle and perfectly cleaved — a collector's mineral, which is why it is sold as a specimen and not as jewelry.
Care
Soft and brittle with a perfect cleavage: handle by the matrix, do not soak, no ultrasonic or steam, no salt. Cleanse it dry — a smudge, sound or moonlight. Never use it in gem water: it is a copper mineral.
