Lapis Lazuli — Lapis is a powerful Third Eye opener — so powerful it was once thought necessary in death mantles to ensure passage to the afterlife. It is a stone that aids in travel between worlds and can be used to consciously travel into the astral plane. By opening our third eye, the all-seeing eye of our consciousness, Lapis helps us attain an understanding of all that is, thus eliminating stress and bringing a sense of deep peace and contentment. Amethyst — Amethyst is the one stone to have if you only owned one stone. It is both a stone of spiritual connection (Crown Chakra) and earth connection (Root Chakra). It is known as the Serenity Stone because it often helps us to release old negative habits so that we can shift forward into the best version of ourselves. About the Stones

Lapis Lazuli. Lapis Lazuli is a rock rather than a single mineral — deep blue lazurite with white calcite and brassy flecks of pyrite.

Amethyst. Amethyst is quartz with iron inclusions that give it its color; the most coveted deep purple comes from Uruguay, though some Brazilian amethyst rivals it.

Blue Quartz. Blue Quartz is quartz coloured a soft, cloudy blue by fine inclusions.

How to Use a Mala

Hold the mala in your right hand, draped over the middle finger, and move it bead by bead with your thumb — one breath, or one repetition of your mantra, per bead. Start at the bead beside the guru bead and travel the circle; when you reach the guru bead again you have counted 108. Turn around rather than crossing it, and begin again if you wish.

Wearing & Care

Take the mala off for showers, swimming and sleep; the cord lasts years when it stays dry. Store it flat or hung, not knotted in a pocket. Lapis Lazuli: Do not soak Lapis, and never use salt water: its calcite dissolves and its pyrite rusts. Amethyst: Amethyst's purple fades with long hours in direct sun — it is the stone Vero uses to teach the rule. Blue Quartz: Durable: warm water and a soft cloth.
