Pyrite Tumbled Stone: The Rock That Strikes Fire
Pyrite, sometimes called Iron Pyrite or Iron Sulfide (FeS2), has a remarkable crystal structure often mistaken for metal. He grows in perfect cubes and can appear so flawless that we may doubt Mother Nature’s hand, yet she is indeed the artist! When left undisturbed, a single Pyrite crystal grows into a perfect square. However, we typically see clumps of Pyrite crystals growing together. In the Victoria Mine in Spain, we witness Mother Nature’s perfection and glory in these stunning formations.
Named “Pyrite” from the Greek word “Pyros,” meaning “fire,” he is known as “The Rock That Strikes Fire.” When struck with steel or other ores, Pyrite sparks, similar to flint, which many of us know as a fire starter.
During the US Western Expansion, Pyrite earned the nickname “Fool’s Gold” as many novice prospectors mistook it for gold, only to be disappointed at the exchange office.
Despite this historical nickname, Pyrite is far from foolish. Pyrite is said to be a stone of confidence, resonating with the Solar Plexus Chakra—the center of our manifesting power. He is thought to encourage us to follow our gut instincts and shape our world as we truly desire. Pyrite is also believed to act as a shield against negativity, helping one to assertively pursue their goals, making him especially valuable as an ally in business.
