Hematite is a tricky stone, as its coloring does not match its assigned chakra. It is a Solar Plexus stone and a guardian of trusting your gut instincts. It is the most important ore of iron — Vero calls it the Crystal form of Iron, a very close relative to the cast iron skillets our foremothers used. It is mined primarily to be made into iron, and then steel; without it, life as we know it would not be.
Working in the Solar Plexus, the center for our instincts and our will, Hematite can create balance where what we know and what we want are in conflict. About the Stone
Whatever its color — red, brown, black, grey or silver — raw Hematite always leaves a red streak, and it is why Mars is called the Red Planet. It has been used as a pigment for some 40,000 years. Hematite is not naturally magnetic; magnetite is.
Care
Hematite is iron and it rusts: keep it dry, never soak it or cleanse it with salt water, and dry it promptly if it gets wet. Cleanse it with sage or moonlight.
